Which plan applies in Chandigarh today
Chandigarh is governed by the Chandigarh Master Plan 2031, notified by the UT Administration in 2015. In September 2026 the Administration approved the plan's first set of amendments, which still have to be formally notified. Houses and other buildings must follow the Chandigarh Building Rules (Urban) 2017 with their amendments, the sector zoning plans and the architectural controls. The Phase I heritage areas are protected by the Edict of Chandigarh and the Capitol Complex's World Heritage status. The Estate Office approves building plans through Chandigarh's online building plan approval system.
